Capitol (S)T2553 (1966)
Among the coolest CD series' Beatles-related are the "The Capitol Albums" box sets. Those Capitol LPs were primo, to say the least, and it's great to have these records properly mastered and available in digital form.
Unfortunately, EMI seems to have pulled the plug after volume two. This is a shame, because the very next album that would have gotten the treatment would be this little gem.
Aside from being an awesome example of Capitol's "Prepared for the U.S. by..." sequencing, Yesterday... And Today also contains some unique early mixes of a number of tracks. The mono LP features mixes of "I'm Only Sleeping", "Doctor Robert" and "And Your Bird Can Sing" that were prepared specifically for this LP, months before final mixing for Revolver began. The stereo LP features the hard to find 1965 stereo mixes of "Day Tripper" and "We Can Work It Out" (Past Masters uses the reverb-heavy '66 remixes), as well as some interesting alternate mixes of "Doctor Robert" and "I'm Only Sleeping".
The mono version is taken from an early 1966 West Coast pressing.
The stereo version is from a late '70s "Wally" cut, pressed at Capitol's Winchester, Va. plant.
