Dunhill D50007 (1966)
Second full-length solo release from the prolific songwriter and Wrecking Crew rhythm guitarist. Like the previous LP, the primary purpose of this effort seemed to be to build a catalog for the newly-launched Dunhill label, and to generate some royalties for the equally new Trousdale Publishing firm.
The rushed, no-frills production - courtesy future writing partner Steve Barri - works well for the material. Sloan's fascination with Dylan is obvious throughout - his own stripped-down reading of "Let Me Be" really sounds like a re-write of "It Ain't Me, Babe". Some of these tracks would become hits for others, and some clearly should have been.
