Columbia CL2053 (1963)
Not really a "Best Of", despite the bold claim on the cover, but rather a handful of A- & B-sides, mixed in with some otherwise hard to find EP tracks. This difference is key to why it holds up so well. It's a well sequenced overview of Cash's first five years on the label that avoids sounding overfamiliar.
This rip is from the original mono release, which has been out of print in any form for over 40 years.

ReplyDeleteNot anymore it's not! Thanks to the Johnny Cash Complete Columbia box set released in late 2012, which features the first 19 albums in mono, including this one. Just a PSA for those of you reading this in the future.
